Hiller Aviation Museum – San Carlos, CA
Camp Instructor – Full Time / Part Time
Join us to work with kids and aircraft at the Hiller Aviation Museum!
Aviation Camp Instructors teach hands-on science- and flight-themed lessons to students Grades K-7 while working behind-the-scenes at a unique Museum located at one of California’s busiest small airports. Activities include leading hands-on science experiments and engineering challenges suitable for campers ages 5-10 or 10-12, building and flying simple model aircraft, completing fun flight simulations, working inside the cockpits of historic aircraft, building and programming small robots, using computer aided design and 3D printers, and more.
Instructors are responsible for leading all Aviation Camp activities. Instructors prepare lessons using provided curricula, materials, exhibits and other resources. Instructors supervise elementary and middle-school aged campers during sign-in, sign-out and break times, lead lessons, and maintain a safe classroom environment at all times.
Instructor starting pay range is $23.00 – $26.00/hr depending on experience, education and any applicable certifications.
Experience Requirements
Instructors must have experience working with elementary or middle-school children and good classroom management skills. Familiarity with aviation is a plus but not essential—good teachers comfortable teaching elementary science can readily learn the aerospace-specific content with the provided curriculum and training.
Instructor positions/shifts vary with enrollment. Most instructors should expect to work 5-8 hours per day while Aviation Camp is in session, with occasional opportunities for weekend hours (optional). Shifts fall between 8 AM and 5:30 PM with most full-time instructor shifts lasting from 8 AM – 5 PM. Half day shifts range from 8 AM – 1:30 PM or 12 PM – 5:30 PM.
Aviation Camp runs June 2 – August 29 with mandatory training on June 7 and 8 from 8 AM to 5 PM both days. Applicants should have availability for at least eight weeks of the summer, or the entire period July 14 – August 15 in order to be considered.
