Hiller Aviation Museum – San Carlos, CA

Educator – Part-Time

Join us to work with kids and aircraft at the Hiller Aviation Museum!

Educators teach hands-on science- and flight-themed lessons to students while working behind-the-scenes at a unique Museum located at one of California’s busiest small airports. This role engages with school groups, families, and many other diverse audiences on a daily basis to provide a unique, hands-on learning experience. Activities include leading hands-on science lessons for PK-8 school groups, facilitating programs and activities for Scout groups, with seasonal opportunities for expanded hours teaching Aviation Camp, if desired. The position uses teaching and facilitation skills to work both at the museum, and off-site for programming as needed.

Educator positions pay $18.50-$25, depending on experience.

Requirements
  • Experience working with elementary or middle school children
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Ability to engage and effectively communicate with diverse audiences in a variably-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service, public speaking, and listening skills.
  • Experience working with youth in a traditional or non-traditional educational setting is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) is required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with science and/or aviation is a plus but not essential—educators comfortable with elementary-aged students can readily learn the aerospace-specific content with the provided curriculum and training.
Working Conditions and Schedule
  • This is an on-site role.
  • Field trip programs take place weekday mornings, with typical shifts of 2-3 hours between 8 AM – 2 PM.
  • Availability for weekend programs and seasonal Aviation Camp is helpful but not required.
  • Weekend Educator Shifts run between 3 to 8 hours depending on assignment.
  • Seasonal Aviation Camp shifts are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

Shifts vary based on school reservations and instructor availability, but educators typically work 2-4 days of field trips per week, for a total of 30-40 hours/month with additional hours available for afternoon, weekend, and/or season camp shifts.
