Educator – Weekends – Part-Time
Join us to work with kids and aircraft at the Hiller Aviation Museum!
Educators teach hands-on science- and flight-themed lessons to students while working behind-the-scenes at a unique Museum located at one of California’s busiest small airports. The Educator will be primarily responsible for facilitating experiences such as gallery programs and exhibits, Scout programs, educational assemblies, and family events. The position uses teaching and facilitation skills to work both at the museum, and off-site for programming as needed.
Educator positions pay $18.50-$25, depending on experience.
We are looking for enthusiatic and engaging staff members. Candidates should be comfortable approaching and talking to museum guests about current events, programs, and exhibits. Candidates should be comfortable with leading assembly style presentation to audiences of anywhere from 1 to 200 guests.
Requirements
- At least one weekend day shift per week is required.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school children
- Effective classroom management skills
- Ability to engage and effectively communicate with diverse audiences in a variably-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service, public speaking, and listening skills.
- A high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) is required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with science and/or aviation is a plus but not essential—educators comfortable with elementary-aged students can readily learn the aerospace-specific content with the provided curriculum and training.
Working Conditions and Schedule
- This is an on-site role.
- Weekend shift times vary by program/events, with typical shifts between 3 to 5 hours per day.
- Availability for weekday programs and seasonal Aviation Camp is helpful but not required.
